Whitening Improves Your Smile
There
are many causes of tooth discoloration; substances like
coffee, cola, and smoking. Some medications and aging can
also cause your teeth to stain over time. We can determine
the source of your discoloration, then recommend the best
whitening system for you. In most cases the results are
striking!
Don't
be misled by unproven and ineffective over the counter whitening
solutions. This office dispenses a simple, safe and effective
tooth whitening system that is closely monitored by our
clinical staff for maximum results in the least amount of
time.
Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is tooth whitening?
It's
actually a bleaching process that lightens discolorations
of enamel and dentin. The system uses a mild solution retained
in a custom-fitted tray that is worn over your teeth.
What
causes tooth discoloration?
There
are many causes. The most common include aging, consumption
of staining substances (coffee, tea, colas, tobacco), trauma,
stainin, nerve degeneration, and old restorations. During
tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline or excessive
flouride may also cause tooth discoloration.
Who
may benefit from tooth whitening?
Almost
anyone. However, there are some cases where the treatment
may not be effective. We can determine viable candidates
for the process through a thorough oral examination and
diagnosis. The Discus Dental Whitening is ideal for patients
who have healthy teeth and would like to have a whiter,
brighter smile, day or night.
Why
is the Discus Dental Whitening process unique?
You
can whiten your teeth comfortably and effectively, in private,
while you sleep or during the day.
Is
the process safe?
YES!
Research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth
with carbamide peroxide under our supervision is safe for
teeth and gums. In fact, we consider this whitening process
one of the safest cosmetic dental procedures available today.
How
does it work?
The
Discus Dental Whitening gel is placed in a thin bleaching
tray that fits over your teeth. As the active ingredient
in the gel, carbamide peroxide, is broken down, oxygen enters
the enamel and dentin and bleaches the colored substances.
The structure of the tooth is not changed; only the tooth
color is made lighter.
How
long does it take?
Results
are usually seen after the first night. Maximum results
generally occur when the process is continued for 10 to
14 nights.
Are
there any side effects?
Some
people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity
to cold during the treatment. These symptoms always disappear
within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the
treatment. Patients using Nite White®
EXCEL are less likely to get tooth sensitivity.
How
long do the results last?
The
teeth will always be lighter than they were. However, some
patients may need periodic re-whitening for one or two days
every one to two years, especially if they continue to use
staining substances like caffeine or tobacco products.
What
Is The Tooth Whitening Process?
It is
a simple procedure:
- Impressions
of your upper and lower teeth are made. From these impressions,
we make custom fitting tooth whitening appliances.
- You
are fitted with the appliances, which are clear and very
hard to detect at a distance. You will be given a professional
whitening system and personalized instructions about how
to use it.
- To
keep your teeth free from tartar and plaque, we will plan
the proper homecare regimen in order to keep your smile
looking good for a lifetime.
